The remix of Square Enix’s 2008 DS RPG has a release date.
The World Ends With You: Final Remix will arrive on Nintendo Switch on October 12, Nintendo announced today. Originally released on DS just over 10 years ago, The World Ends With You’s Switch re-release was announced in January.
Final Remix for Switch features new HD visuals and additional content and gameplay options that weren’t in the 2008 original. Taking full advantage of the Switch, Final Remix will allow players to use either the touchscreen or Joy-Cons as control options. Additionally, Final Remix includes a new two-player co-op mode.
The re-release’s title is a reference both to the iOS and Android version dubbed Solo Remix and to the fact that the Switch version features remixed music. The musical changes are particularly important since The World Ends With You features rhythmic battles that Nintendo and publisher/developer Square Enix hope will mesh well with the new Switch control options.
In its 2008 review, IGN awarded The World Ends With You a 9/10, praising its “impressive ability to create an immersive, alive world.” And if that’s not enough to win you over, here are some more timely reasons why you should care about the re-release.
